I've been using the new Google Chrome browser all week. Ok, to be honest, I downloaded it one minute after it was made available and we engineers debated its attributes all day. The major drawback so far is that it doesn't crash when you have a large number of open tabs. Who knew a well-architected, high-quality piece of software would cause such distress? Also, a great way to get the attention of software engineers is to announce a new product in the form of a software engineering-oriented comic book. "Wouldn't it be great, then, to start from scratch--"
Still, to alleviate my open tab distress (and since del.icio.us version 2 broke the aworks daily links), here's a dump of my open tabs for the week, er, my well-curated list of links.
Warning: The following list of links is distorted due to recent Alaskan political developments. To aworks surprise if not dismay, this blog is now taking its political cues from an ex-Republican, conservative, non-US born, East Coast, sort of mainstream media blogger to tell us what's important in Alaska among other states aworks covers. We look forward to resuming regular music linking. Also, I'm ready to mail my election absentee ballot, if only I had it in hand. So let's get started closing those browser tabs...
- gmail. Wait, a private tab. Still, this reminds me to follow-up on:
- composer Jefferson Friedman's participation in "Dargerism: Contemporary Artists and Henry Darger" (even if I first read that as Dargel-ism)
- a new Alex Ross article on serious-ism in the New Yorker
- the Notations21 project with all those American composers, and concerts hosted by the Chelsea Art Museum: The Project Room for New Media at Chelsea Art Museum will display fascinatingly creative musical scores that not only make for exciting music, but inspiring visual art as well. The scores have been compiled by ethnomusicologist Theresa Sauer in her book Notations 21, written in honor of the 40th anniversary of John’s Cage’s seminal book Notations.
- "'Coopetition'; Parallel Programming Made Easy; Patent Data Mining" (and they said engineering wouldn't be interesting)
- "Gordon Lightfoot posted a concert near you!" (in foreclosure capital Stockton, CA)
- "[classroom2009] Third Grade Curriculum Outline for Back To School Night." Such an emphasis on test scores.

-122.0." Earthquake in the East Bay nine minutes ago. Didn't feel it
here. You're signed up for earthquake email notification, right? USGS
- The Republican Convention used a photo of Hollywood's Walter Reed Middle School instead of Walter Reed Medical Center. Don't yet know the magnitude of the (political) damage. I long for the olden days of Bush/Rove competency. TPM Election Central
- "It was a green backdrop behind him, it was a big lawn in front of a big house. You thought what the heck was that? It looked like it could have been one of the McCain mansions." Fox News via The Jed Report

- Obama will win the election, in the model of Maryland basketball and zen. Obsidian Wings
- I considered taking the local 86-year-old to this local Republican elite fundraiser since she is enamored with a particular Alaskan candidate. sfist
- The new community/commercial music info thingie doesn't yet have much on Milton Babbitt. Amazon
- Land of the Lost (1974 TV Series). It turns out I was completely unaware of this. Am I the only one and have I ever mentioned I'm now older than two of the four major political candidates? Again, this makes me nostalgic for 2004. Wikipedia.
