- Bemusha Swing [sic]. John Coltrane and Cecil Taylor
- Guide to Strange Places. John Adams
Shadrack Chameleon was an Iowa band that appeared on the collection Forge Your Own Chains: Heavy Psychedelic Ballads and Dirges 1968-1974. One doesn't normally associate psychedelia with the state of Iowa but who knows?...I also listened to the Devo version of Secret Agent Man; a good guitar riff compensates for many deficiencies...The Bemsha Swing track is from The Sweet Sound of Jazz by Coltrane and Taylor. One doesn't associate "sweetness" with either of those artists but relatively speaking, I suppose this is as close as they come to it. (And having now written this as I rip some old CDs, I just ran across my copy of The Gentle Side of John Coltrane. I guess "fire" artists are allowed some down-time)...The more I listen to Guide to Strange Places, the less strange it sounds. Now Bernard Herrmann's score for Journey to the Center of the Earth; that's strange (and not on lala, unfortunately).
