Or to phrase it in English, my overly large MP3 collection (>25,000 MP3s) was causing iTunes to overheat my PC. I naively thought the solution was to buy a new, tricked out PC but it appears that a week later, iTunes on the new computer still has performance problems, although at least it no longer crashes the computer.
Since this is no longer just a hardware problem, I'm compelled to try a drastic solution -- use MediaMonkey for my music management rather than the formerly beloved iTunes. If that proves unsatisfactory, then I'll migrate my files to the Internet cloud and use the local PC as backup.
In the midst of this media turmoil, I'd like to thank Dell. When my new PC wouldn't boot, their tech support had me reseat the memory cards. In doing so, I broke a 25 cent connector and couldn't plug in the 3rd Gig of memory. So now someone will come to my house to replace the entire motherboard, at no extra cost.
Let the untethering from Apple begin. Wish me luck...
Amidst the meta-musical chaos, I voted tonight in the California primary. And back on topic, my recent listening highlights include the new John Luther Adams album, random Carl Stone tracks, and MP3s of Alex Ross' book The Rest Is Noise ("...Richard Strauss conducted his opera Salome...an ultra-dissonant biblical spectacle, based on a play by a British degenerate..."). The latter (the ebook, not the opera) also available in an Amazon Kindle edition.
And regardless of the outcome of tonight's intense IT maintenance activities, tomorrow morning at 945 AM, it's the Hannah Montana 3-D concert movie in Mountain View. Again, wish me luck...
