- This morning, for the second time in four years, I exited the train station in downtown San Jose to see police standing guard, with no idea why.
- On the way home, I was thinking what music I wanted to hear, maybe something soothing like Cage's In a Landscape. But no, this time, I needed something with more of an edge, say, the late sixties Miles Davis playing Shhh/Peaceful from In a Silent Way. In that work, Davis plays with intensity and restraint. An Amazon reviewer gets it right - "It's hypnotic, it's soothing, it's mostly peaceful and just a little restless."
- I may be out of the mainstream but I agree with Kevin Drum's sentiment for the day although by commenter PapaJijo's standards, aworks is the equivalent of a blogging astrologer or duck feeder.
- On this day in the London of 1662, Samuel Pepys' life was relatively uneventful:
...My morning’s work at the office was to put the new books of my office into order, and writing on the backsides what books they be, and transcribing out of some old books some things into them.
