This opera only gets more interesting with each passing day and year. I still can't believe it's never been done by the San Francisco Opera (or the Metropolitan, for that matter), but hey, it's only a matter of time. The other thing to remember about it is that musically it's a very much a brilliant young man's work. Adams was having an immensely fun time and you can hear it in every note. The energy throughout is astonishing.

And Miss Alice's libretto really is one of the great ones. "News, news, news, news, has a, has a, has a kind of mystereeeeee..." is one of the most wonderful collaborations between librettist and composer I've ever heard.
