Somehow the Klinghoffer opera is one of his pieces that has still eluded me. I have never heard it. But the main reason I wanted to comment was to ask if you have ever read Phillip Roth's novel Operation Shylock. The character of Klinghofer plays a small but central role in the novel. At issue in the novel is a copy of Klinghofer's diaries, which may or may not be authentic. As is common with Roth, the plot is quite complex, and the reader is never quite sure what in the story is "real". Just thought I would pass that on, in case you haven't read it and might be interested. But reading through your archives has reminded me that I need to hear the Klinghofer opera. Maybe I will actually do it this time.

Ok, thanks for the tip. I've started reading Operation Shylock, and so far, it's compelling and complex.

I have the DVD of The Death of Klinghoffer which is filmed in a realistic, disturbing style, I kept fearing for Klinghoffer. Just listening didn't cause that response.

I would like to know what you think of the book when you are finished. Do you happen to know if that DVD is out at video rental places. I check one of the local, so called eclectic stores, and they didn't have it. Maybe I should start with the music first.
