Bill Ryan is a composer and founder of the Grand Valley State New Music Ensemble...The Nancarrow came as part of my kickstarter donation for the recent Nancarrow at 100 celebration. This music is crazy and fun and can only be taken in small doses...Christian Poltéra is a European-based cellist...I'm ambivalent about the 100 Best American Classics collection; this disc has a handful of Duke Ellington tunes as sung by Barbara Hendricks. Her voice is fine but isn't Ellington better served by big band arrangements?
