I'm listening to the US Marine Band recording of Charles Ives' "The Alcotts." Hearing a band rather than a piano play this makes for a much more Beethovian experience.

I was actually introduced to the work when I played "The Alcotts" in community band. I have since acquired Kalish's recording, which is great. I'm sure the allusions to Beethoven come through better in a winds arrangement, but I think I prefer the piano by itself in the end.
