Would we call Philip Glass a genius now because of Einstein on the Beach, or would we not, despite it? (I might offer the latter.)

Mr. Adams has had three decades of work to back this up, as opposed to Mr. Glass who had only one at the time (and now has about two decades, for the most part, against him). I would like to revisit Adams's work and try to figure out the hubbub; I know what makes him "supposed to be great."
